In the flowing liquid, the liquid pressure locally decreases, and when the liquid temperature approaches the saturated vapor pressure of the liquid temperature, the liquid starts to evaporate or the gas dissolved in the liquid precipitates, resulting in a minute amount in the liquid. Cavitation is a phenomenon in which bubbles are generated and suddenly grow large.

The material may be damaged by the high impact pressure generated when the cavitation bubbles collapse, which is called cavitation erosion.

In water jet processing, it is effectively used to remove and clean surface deposits in water.
